HIKING: Black Mountain

← SC SLICKING CREEK ROCKY BOTTOMSC Triple Blaze →

Description

This is a beautiful trail in the mountains of North Carolina! It's pretty easy to access, since the parking lot is right off of the highway.

It's an arduous hike up to the top of Black Mountain, so be prepared to work for it, and to be at it a while! There are sections of steep, eroded roots and rocks, steep staircases, mud... just about everything you can imagine! There are some great views to be had though, especially when the leaves are off the trees in the winter.

Directions

From Asheville, take I-240 W to I-26 E. Take the Airport Rd exit (exit 40, old exit 9). Turn right off the ramp. Stay on this hwy for ~16 miles and turn right on US 276 (Pisgah Hwy). Ranger Station is just a few miles on the right.
